Fitness Corner

Hello, my name is Julia Witchek. I am the fitness Director here at the Figure 8 Island Yacht Club. I have been with the yacht club for over 20 years bringing you fun, exciting, uplifting, and challenging fitness classes for our WOW program. We have a reduced program during our off-season and a full program throughout the summer. We are here for any of your fitness needs… Personal training, small group specialty classes, in-home workouts, private yoga, Pilates, as well as health and wellness coaching. Feel free to reach out to me directly to help enhance your time on the Island.

If you have not met them yet, I would like to introduce you to a couple of our instructors…

Courtney

Courtney Dennis is a dedicated and passionate yoga instructor with a diverse background in both yoga and endurance athletics. She earned her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training, 120-hour Yin Yoga, and SUP Yoga certifications from Longwave Yoga in Wilmington, NC. She further deepened her practice and teaching expertise by completing her 300-hour Advanced Teacher Training and a Yoga Therapy certification under JJ Gormley at the Surya Chandra Healing Yoga School.

A dedicated endurance athlete, Courtney is an active member of USA Triathlon, Team Zoot Triathlon, Salty Turtle Cycling Club, and Without Limits of Wilmington. She proudly serves as an ambassador for It Could Be Me, a powerful organization committed to raising awareness and promoting safety among drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.

With Yoga Alliance credentials including RYT 500, E-RYT 200, and YACEP, Courtney blends deep knowledge with real-world experience to offer classes that are safe, empowering, and transformative. Outside of the studio, she’s a devoted wife and mom to two amazing kids.

Courtney is currently on our schedule for Sunshine Flow Yoga Wednesdays at 9:30.

Caroline

Caroline is an RYT 500–certified yoga teacher. She was born and raised in the Swiss Alps, where downhill skiing shaped her early love for movement and discipline. After finishing school, she spent several years living and working across the Middle East and Southeast Asia as a travel agent, embracing new cultures and perspectives. In 1995, she moved to the United States with her two sons and later began practicing Martial Arts, progressing to the level of Shodan.

When Caroline and her family relocated to Wilmington in 2007, yoga found her and it has been a central part of her life ever since. The connection between mind and body inspired her to bring the focus and grounding she cultivated on the mat into her daily life. Yoga has also provided essential balance to her competitive tennis training, helping her improve breath control, maintain focus, and remain healthy and injury-free. She believes deeply that yoga is one of the most powerful tools for supporting long-term movement, helping individuals stay mobile, balanced, and injury-resistant throughout their lives.

Right now Caroline teaches our Slow Flow and Balance class on Saturdays at 9:30.
